Breakfast on the Farm
Breakfast on the Farm
Help us kick off June dairy month with Breakfast on the Farm. Breakfast on the Farm is an annual event that invites the public to visit a working dairy farm. Each year, the event is hosted by a different farm family which allows them to tell their individual story. Join us and our host, Wayside Dairy, LLC for a delicious dairy breakfast, farm tour, and dairy fun for the whole family! We would like to thank Wayside Dairy LLC and their employees for hosting this event!

Farm Information
Wayside Dairy has been serving others by producing high quality milk since 1863. We are currently
milking 2,350 cows, 3 times a day, which is equivalent to about 400,000 milk cartons produced every
single day!
We run 3200 acres of crop land which includes corn for silage, alfalfa, wheat and soybeans. Wayside
Dairy has been incorporating use of rye for cover crops for years. We harvest about 800 acres of those
cover crops for forage in mid-May and then plant corn. We work hard to be good stewards of the land.
We take pride in our work and are always finding new ways to use the latest technology to increase
efficiency and sustainability, including a brand-new manure digester which will be built on the property
in 2025 and will produce sustainable natural gas for the community. In 2023, the dairy switched from
using sand to separated manure solids. By using these solids, it allows us to produce our own bedding.
Volunteers
Volunteers who are a part of a group/organization are eligible to receive compensation for volunteering their time. Groups and organizations can receive $10/member for each shift worked. For example, if one volunteer works two shifts, the organization they are a part of would receive $20 for that volunteer’s time(2 shifts X $10/shift). Another example, if three volunteers work one shift, the organization would receive $30 for their time (3 shifts X $10/shift). There is not a limit on the amount of funds a group/organization can receive for their time volunteering.

We would like to thank our volunteers for all of their hard work setting up for the event and assisting the day of Breakfast on the Farm. We could not do this event with out your help. Thank you to everyone who helps at the breakfast!
